The 2020 ATB Coin Series marks the last year that the collection will have five fresh designs to offer, as it has in every year dating back to its 2020 debut. With 56 designs planned in total, the final release will include just one coin in 2021 for the state of Alabama. As the 2020 ATB Coins begin to roll out from the West Point Mint and Philadelphia Mint, investors and collectors have precious few chances left to enjoy the brilliant designs of this series. In the 2nd release of 2020, Weir Farm National Historic Site takes its place among the 51 previous issues in the collection.
Weir Farm National Historic Site Silver Coin
The 2020 5 oz ATB Weir Farm National Historic Site Silver Coin is the second release of 2020 and 52nd overall in the America the Beautiful Collection. The reverse face of the coin delivers an idyllic setting inspired by Weir Farm in Fairfield County, Connecticut. In the reverse design element, an artist stands in front of his easel looking up at the farmhouse and artist studio at Weir Farm. As he gazes up the grassy hill, the farmhouse emerges between a handful of trees at the very top of the hill. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include “Weir Farm,” “Connecticut,” “2020,” and “E Pluribus Unum.” There is also a unique inscriptions within the design field that reads “A National Park for Art.”
Of course, the obverse face of the 2020 ATB Weir Farm Silver Coin continues with the use of a bust of President George Washington. Perhaps the most influential Founding Father of America, Washington is depicted in left-profile relief in a design that was created in 1932 by John Flanagan. Mr. Flanagan created this image in 1932 for use on the circulation quarter. Congress had previously authorized Washington’s bust to replace the Standing Liberty image on the quarter starting in 1932 to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth.
Release Details
2020 5 oz ATB Weir Farm National Historic Site Silver Coins are already available for presale with an expected arrival date in our vaults on or around April 9, 2020. The bullion version of the coin is available with capsules for individual specimens, mint tubes of multiples of 10, or boxes for multiples of 100 coins. Each individual coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Later in the year, the 2020 5 oz Burnished ATB Weir Farm National Historic Site Silver Coin will be available with its stunning matte finish. The Burnished ATB Silver Coins ship individually packaged inside of US Mint presentation boxes with a Certificate of Authenticity available and a “P” mint mark on the obverse as a product of the Philadelphia Mint.
History of Weir Farm
Weir Farm National Historic Site is located in the cities of Ridgefield and Wilton, Connecticut, and it is unique in that it is just one of two sites in the US National Park Service devoted to the visual arts. The other is Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in New Hampshire. Weir Far celebrates the life and work of the American impressionist J. Alden Weir. He purchased the land that would become Weir Farm in 1882 from Erwin Davis for $10 and a painting. He built a home and artist studio on the 153-acre farm and eventually hosted other artist, either as artistic guests or long-term residents of the farm, over the course of his life.
Today, Weir Farm as a National Historic Site consists of just 60 acres and includes a total of 16 buildings on the land with hiking trails winding throughout the property.
