Rather than depicting a single individual, Fraser created a composite image by blending the features of three Indigenous individuals from the early 20th century. 

The reverse of the 2026-W 1 oz Proof Gold Buffalo Coin presents an image of the American bison. Also designed by Fraser, the animal is shown in left-profile relief. The design is inspired by Black Diamond, a bison that lived at the Central Park Zoo in the early 1900s, and depicts the animal with its head lowered as it grazes atop a small mound of earth.
