In AD 301, Armenia became the first state in the world to adopt Christianity as its official religion. Christianity had been spreading in Armenia since the first century, brought by two of Jesus’s apostles, Thaddeus and Bartholomew, who traveled north to preach the Gospel in the region.

On the obverse of the 2026 1 oz Gold Noah’s Ark Coin, the Armenian national coat of arms is prominently displayed. The emblem, adopted on April 19, 1992, shows a lion and an eagle supporting a shield. These historic symbols date back to Armenia’s earliest kingdoms before Christ. The shield contains four quadrants with heraldic figures, and at the center is a small rendering of Noah’s Ark resting on Mount Ararat.
The reverse of the 2026 Armenian Gold Noah’s Ark Coin features an image of Noah’s Ark at the center of the design. A white dove carrying an olive branch approaches the ark, reflecting the biblical story. In the background, Mount Ararat rises with the sun behind it, representing the location where the ark’s journey ended according to scripture. The inscription “Noah’s Ark” appears in both Armenian and English around the design, linking the biblical story with Armenia’s heritage.
