The Missisquoi people are now primarily represented by the Abenaki Nation at Missisquoi, located in Swanton, Vermont. This community remains active in its efforts to preserve cultural traditions, protect land rights, and pursue formal federal recognition of its people and sovereign status.
On the reverse of the 2026 Colorized Native America the Beautiful Vermont Silver Coin is the standard design used throughout the series. At the center is the head of an American bald eagle, set within an eight-pointed star. Surrounding the star are arrowheads, with one placed between each point, creating a balanced and consistent visual element that unifies the collection.
The Missisquoi Abenaki have inhabited their homeland along Lake Champlain for thousands of years, long predating European contact, and were well-established traders, farmers, and hunters when French explorers arrived in the early 17th century.
