Among the Royal Mint’s leading bullion releases each year, British Silver Britannia coins hold a prominent place. Introduced in 1997, the Silver Britannia line mirrors the design elements of the Gold Britannia Series, which was launched a decade earlier in 1987. Coins in the Silver Britannia range are produced in various weights, starting from 1/10 oz and extending up to 1 Kilo. Now, 2026 1/4 oz British Silver Britannia Coins are available online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 2026 1/4 Silver Britannia Coins feature a portrait of King Charles III on the obverse. This left-profile effigy depicts His Majesty without a crown and represents the first official portrait of him to appear on British coinage. The design was completed in late 2022 by sculptor Martin Jennings.
The reverse side of the 2026 British Silver Britannia includes the image of Britannia, a symbolic figure representing the nation. This design was created by Philip Nathan in 1987 and shows Britannia in a classical appearance. She is illustrated in a wind-blown garment and Corinthian helmet, with a trident in one hand and an olive branch resting on a shield that carries the Union Jack emblem.
The first British coin to feature Britannia was the copper farthing issued in 1672 during the reign of Charles II. The design showed Britannia as a helmeted female figure holding a spear and shield, seated beside the sea, and was created by engraver John Roettiers based on a design that may have used the Duchess of Richmond as a model.
These 2026 1/4 oz British Silver Britannia Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are packaged individually in plastic flips or in acrylic tubes for multiples of 19 coins.
