The obverse of the 2026 American Gold Eagle displays the classic design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. His depiction of Lady Liberty shows her in full-length form with flowing hair, carrying a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The Capitol building appears in the background to the left side of the design. This artwork was originally introduced on the $20 Saint-Gaudens gold coin, which was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt as part of an effort to bring the influence of classical Greek and Roman coinage to American currency.
On the reverse of the 2026 1/4 oz Gold Eagle Coins, the United States Mint features Jennie Norris’ bald eagle design. The motif presents a close-up profile of the head of an American Bald Eagle, highlighting the bird’s focused expression and detailed features. The careful rendering of the feathers and facial elements contributes to a natural and recognizable portrayal of the national bird.
