First released in 1986 by the United States Mint, American Gold Eagle bullion coins have appeared every year since then, reaching 40 years of annual issues by 2026. To mark the Gold Eagle Series’ 40th anniversary in 2026, the Mint presents these well-known designs on its traditional lineup of 22-karat gold coins. Today, 2026 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition are available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The coin measures 22mm in diameter and features the same artistic elements as its larger siblings: Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ celebrated Liberty design on the obverse and Miley Busiek’s family of eagles on the original reverse, with Jennie Norris’ modern eagle design on the reverse as of 2021. This fractional size allowed investors with smaller budgets to participate in the precious metals market while still obtaining a government-guaranteed gold bullion product.
All 2026 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins available here come in plastic slabs with a perfect certification. MS70 coins have full, original mint luster and no visible flaws. Early Release specimens are those that are received for grading within 30 days of release from the mint.
On the obverse of the 2026 American Gold Eagle, you’ll see Lady Liberty in the classic 1907 design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Originally used on the $20 Double Eagle, it shows a full-length Liberty striding forward toward the viewer, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
The reverse of the 2026 1/4 oz Gold Eagles features Jennie Norris’ modern American bald eagle. First created in 2020 and introduced on the series in 2021, this design presents a highly detailed left-profile portrait of the eagle’s head in relief.
