Coin Highlights:
HMS Bounty was a small British Royal Navy vessel purchased in 1787 and refitted for an expedition to transport breadfruit plants from Tahiti to the West Indies as cheap food for slaves. Under the command of Lieutenant William Bligh, the ship departed England in December 1787 and reached Tahiti in October 1788, where the crew spent five months collecting breadfruit plants.
All 2026 1/2 Gram Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coins are available in protective flips and arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This is the third issue of the Pitcairn Islands Bounty Series, and this 1/2 gram gold coin is the smallest offering in the collection.
On the obverse of 2026 Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coins, you’ll find a left-profile bust of King Charles III. Glyn Davies created this first-generation effigy of His Majesty, and it depicts the monarch without a crown. This side also includes the QEII 100 privy mark, honoring the 100th birthday of Elizabeth II.
The reverse of 2026 1/2 Gram Gold Bounty Coins, you’ll find a depiction of the HMS Bounty. The extended stay in Tahiti on its maiden voyage, combined with Bligh’s strict discipline, set the stage for one of history’s most famous naval mutinies on April 28, 1789, when Master’s Mate Fletcher Christian led the crew in seizing the ship. After the mutineers seized control and set Bligh and 18 loyalists adrift, Fletcher Christian and eight mutineers, along with six Tahitian men and twelve women, eventually settled on remote Pitcairn Island in 1790 to escape detection.
