The US Mint produces burnished American Eagle coins through a specialized process that creates their distinctive matte finish. Unlike proof coins, burnished Eagles are struck on specially prepared planchets that have been polished using a rotating drum filled with stainless steel pellets, which creates a smooth, lustrous surface. Today, 2025-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagle Coins are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
After the initial polishing process, Burnished Gold Eagles are then struck once on specially adjusted presses with burnished dies, resulting in their characteristic soft, frosted appearance that differs from both regular bullion Eagles and mirror-like proof versions.
All 2025-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagle Coins are available here with plastic capsules. The coins are housed in a presentation box that includes a Gold Eagle-themed outer shipper. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with each coin. The 2025 mintage limit is nearly half that of 2024, with only 7,500 coins available.
On the obverse of 2025-W Burnished American Gold Eagles, you’ll find Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ timeless image of Lady Liberty. This front-facing portrait shows the full-length figure of Liberty with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. She is shown with sun rays in the background, the U.S. Capitol by her feet, and a ring of stars around the field.
The reverse of 2025-W 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagle Coins comes with a modern depiction of the American bald eagle. This lifelike depiction of the eagle showcases the detailed physical features of its head in left-profile relief. Jennie Norris created this modern design in 2020, and it debuted in mid-2021.
