The South African Mint has released the 2025 Krugerrand. Incredibly, this release marks the 59th time that the South African Mint has offered the Krugerrand to the world.
The 2025 South African Krugerrands continue to be minted in 22-karat gold. They are 91.67% pure gold and 8.33% copper, giving them a deeper auburn hue than a pure gold coin. Silver Krugerrands, by contrast, are minted in .999 fine silver, similar to many other sovereign silver bullion coins around the world.
The Krugerrand is the original sovereign bullion coin, and each one comes with the following details:
The notion of a sovereign bullion coin did not exist until the Krugerrand. The release of the 22-karat coin in 1967 was the first time that precious metal coins had been widely issued to the public.
Each Krugerrand features an image of Paul Kruger on its obverse. Paul Kruger, or Oom Paul, was an early Boer leader and served as the president of South Africa between 1883 and 1900.
The reverse of Krugerrands displays a springbok antelope prancing through the African savanna. One of the most identifiable animals native to South Africa is the springbok, making it a natural choice for depiction on South African coinage.
The 2025 Silver Krugerrand is only available at the 1 oz weight, although we offer a numismatic option alongside the standard coin. Gold Krugerrands also come in the 1 oz variety, but you can also purchase 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz Gold Krugerrands.
Depending on their size and metal, you can buy up to 500 Krugerrands at one time. However, the number available in bulk tends to dwindle as you choose gold and ascend the different weight groups.
