The 2025 British Britannias are now in stock. We have several options in both gold and silver and in a variety of sizes.
The Britannias are the signature product from the Royal Mint. The mint has offered an annual version of this coin since 1987, and features the goddess Britannia, which is a centuries-old allegorical representation of the British Isles themselves. Here are the details about this latest release from one of the world’s oldest sovereign mints:
The 2025 edition of the British Britannia represents the 39th release for the coin series overall. The Royal Mint began to produce this coin in 1987, the year after the US Mint first released its first bullion coin, the Eagle. In both cases, the coins were meant as an answer to the South African Krugerrand’s combination of market dominance and association with South Africa’s racist apartheid system.
Early versions of the Britannia were notably less pure than the more recent editions. In 2012, the Mint issued the series with the gold coin upgraded from 91.67% pure to 99.99% pure. The silver Britannias also upgraded their purity from .958 to .999. In both cases, the upgrades put the Britannia in more able competition with similar high-purity coins from other mints.
The obverse of the 2025 Britannias portrays the kingdom’s sitting monarch, King Charles III. The design from sculptor Martin Jennings has appeared on Britannias since 2023, the first year that the new king appeared on British currency after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse depicts the goddess Britannia wearing a Roman helmet and gown. She holds a trident in her right hand and a shield in her left. The shield is emblazoned with the Union Jack – the flag of Great Britain. Several security features, including a wave pattern, also appear on the reverse.
Both the silver and gold Britannias are available in sizes ranging from 1/10 oz to 1 oz. The face value of each coin depends on its size and primary metal, and can range from 20 pence to £100 sterling.
