The 2025 Mexican Libertad bullion collection will be remembered for its rarity in the future. The Mexican Mint announced startlingly low mintages for coins across the series, including record low mintages across the entire BU Silver Libertad range and the cancellation of all 2025 Gold Libertad coins. With low mintage figures in 2025, now is the time to get your 2025 Mexican Silver Libertad before these limited quantities are gone.
The historic 2025 Libertad release includes record-low issues for each of the coins in the 2025 BU Silver Libertad range. The Mexican Mint plans to issue its core BU Silver Libertads in 2025 with the traditional 5 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/20 oz, and 1 Kilo silver options. However, the mint has set strict limits on the mintage for each weight, with all weights but the 1 Kilo coin set to experience a record low:
These mintage figures not only represent a dramatic drop from just two years ago, but are also set to smash the previous record-low mintages for these coins. As an example, the following figures represent the previous record lows for each of the aforementioned weights (excluding 1 Kilo):
While the Proof Silver Libertad Coins often feature much lower mintage figures than their BU counterparts, the strict mintage caps for the 2025 Proof Silver Libertads will challenge or even exceed some of the record lows in this collection, most of which were set in 1998 and 1999. The announced mintage caps for 2025 Proof Silver Libertads include (* indicates new record low):
Like the Proof Silver Libertads, the 2025 Reverse Proof Silver Libertads will see strict mintages, but the drop in 2025 is the least significant in this three-coin range. The 2025 Reverse Proof Silver Libertad mintages are capped at the following figures:
The previous highs for each of these three Reverse Proof Silver Libertads are 2,100 coins each for the 5 oz and 2 oz coins, and 1,500 for the 1 oz coin. While the 2025 1 oz Reverse Proof Silver Libertad will not experience a drop, the 5 oz coin will see a moderate drop from its previous low of 1,000 coins. The 2 oz coin will experience the most significant drop, with 300 coins setting a new low that falls far shy of the previous low of 1,000 coins.
Several factors have been cited for the Mexican Mint’s pullback on production figures for the 2025 Mexican Libertads. Economic and market uncertainty have had an impact on the purchasing patterns of bullion buyers, while the Mexican Mint reportedly has surplus inventory of its 2023 and 2024 Libertads, both of which featured much higher mintages. Whatever the exact reasons behind the Mexican Mint’s decision, the 2025 Silver Libertad Series will likely command intense interest in the future as this unprecedented low release creates increased rarity with each passing year.
