After nearly three decades offering only BU and Proof versions of the Silver Libertad, the Mexican Mint unveiled a Reverse Proof Silver Libertad for the first time in 2015. This expansion of the series saw these unique collectibles introduced in three of the eight weights in the Silver Libertad Series in the first three years: 5 oz, 2 oz, and 1 oz. Today, 2025 5 oz Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
From 1982 to 2014, the Mexican Mint issued its Silver Libertads only as BU and proof specimens. In 2015, the Mexican Mint introduced the first of two new collectible silver coins. The first release in 2015 saw the mint offer a 1 oz reverse proof coin, with 2 oz and 5 oz coins added in 2017. Meanwhile, the 2018 release schedule included a new antique version of the Silver Libertad. While the latter lasted just two years, the former is still available.
All 2025 5 oz Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available here with plastic capsules. The coins are reverse proof specimens that flip the traditional visual elements of a proof coin. On a reverse proof coin, the design element has a mirrored finish, while the background has a frosted finish. Across all releases in 2025, the Mexican Mint has significantly reduced the mintage of its Mexican Silver Libertads and opted not to produce any 2025 Mexican Gold Libertads. In particular, mintage levels for all BU Silver Libertads have reached record lows for the series, a development that is expected to create lasting scarcity for this year’s coins.
The obverse of 2025 Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertads shows the Mexican coat of arms. The modern national seal includes a golden eagle in left-profile relief with a serpent in its talons and beak. The eagle and serpent are featured on a prickly pear cactus. The modern seal is surrounded by 10 historic versions of the emblem.
On the reverse of the 2025 5 oz Reverse Proof Silver Libertad Coin, you will find a depiction of Winged Victory. A symbol from Mexico’s revolutionary era, Winged Victory is shown here in three-quarter relief with a laurel wreath in her right hand and a broken set of chains in her left hand.
