In 2025, the United States Mint brought an end to the production of circulating pennies, concluding more than 200 years of continuous history for the nation’s longest-running coin denomination. To mark this final chapter, the US Mint released a special Omega issue of US pennies. This limited three-coin set recognizes the conclusion of penny production while also forming what is considered the rarest penny set ever issued in the United States. The 2025 3-Coin Omega Privy Pennies Lot #211 set comes with three individual US pennies from the Omega strike of the series. Each coin is housed in an individual slab, with the gold penny in MS69 condition and both circulation pennies in MS65 condition with the RD designation. The RD designation for copper pennies indicates that at least 95% of the original red colorization of the copper remains visible. In this set, the 24-karat gold penny and the Denver Mint penny have CAC verification of their grades.
CAC verification provides an added layer of quality assurance to coins that have already been graded by the PCGS or NGC. When coins are assigned a green or gold sticker by the CAC, it serves as a symbol to the buyer that each coin has met the strict standards as a premium example of the assigned grade. The reverse of the 2025 Omega-Privy Penny displays the modern Union Shield design. First introduced in 2010, this design replaced the long-running Lincoln Memorial reverse, which had appeared on pennies struck between 1959 and 2008.
The 2025 3-Coin Omega-Privy Penny Set is notable for carrying the lowest mintages ever recorded for the Lincoln Penny series. For comparison, these coins were produced at a level approximately 2,000 times lower than the well-known 1909-S VDB Lincoln Penny. Their mintage is also only a small fraction of that of the historic 1793 Chain Reverse Penny, the first penny struck by the United States Mint. The mintage of only 232 sets is a nod to the incredible history of the US penny, which was issued for 232 years by the US Mint (1793-2025).
