In 2025, the United States Mint brought an end to penny production with the final circulation strikes of America’s longest-running coin denomination. To mark this historic moment, the US Mint released a special Omega issue penny set. This three-coin collection recognizes the conclusion of the penny’s role in circulation while also forming one of the lowest-mintage penny sets ever produced by the United States Mint. Right now, 2025 3-Coin Omega-Privy Pennies Lot #199 is available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
2025 3-Coin Omega-Privy Pennies Lot #199 includes three individually slabbed coins. Collectors will receive two standard circulating pennies, one struck at the Philadelphia Mint with no mint mark and one from the Denver Mint featuring a “D” mint mark. The centerpiece of the collection is a 24-karat gold penny from the Philadelphia Mint. This release represents the first gold penny ever issued by the US Mint and ranks among the rarest non-proof gold coins in its history. The total mintage is limited to just 232 sets, a number chosen to reflect the 232-year history of the US penny from 1793 through 2025.
The Denver and Philadelphia copper pennies earned MS65 grades with an RD designation, indicating that at least 95% of the original red color of the copper is visible. The Philadelphia gold penny earned an MS69 certification. The CAC verified the certification of the 24-karat gold penny in this set, as well as the Denver copper penny. CAC verification provides an additional level of confidence for collectors. Coins already graded by PCGS or NGC that receive a green or gold CAC sticker have been reviewed and confirmed to meet strict quality standards. A green sticker indicates a coin that is a solid or high-end example for its assigned grade.
The obverse of each coin in the 2025 3-Coin Omega-Privy Penny Set displays the familiar right-facing portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. This side also includes a special Omega privy mark, symbolizing the end of the penny’s long production run. As the final letter of the Greek alphabet, Omega serves as an appropriate marker for the conclusion of this chapter in American coinage.
On the reverse, the 2025 Omega-Privy Penny features the Union Shield design. First introduced in 2010, the Union Shield replaced the Lincoln Memorial reverse that appeared on pennies from 1959 through 2008, representing national unity and strength.
With one of the lowest mintages ever recorded for a Lincoln penny, the 2025 3-Coin Omega-Privy Penny Set stands apart in numismatic history. Its production is approximately 2,000 times lower than that of the well-known 1909-S VDB Lincoln Penny and far below the mintage of the 1793 Chain Reverse penny, the first penny struck by the United States.
