Clotho, whose name means “spinner,” was responsible for spinning the thread of human life. Lachesis, “the allotter,” measured the thread of life with her measuring rod. She chose how much time was to be allowed to each person and decided a person’s destiny, determining the length and nature of their lives. Atropos, the third of the Moirai, was responsible for cutting the threads, symbolizing the end.
