In the obverse design of the 2025 1 Proof Silver Libertad Coin is the modern depiction of the national coat of arms. It shows a golden eagle locked in battle with a serpent while standing atop a prickly pear cactus. The 5 oz, 2 oz, and 1 oz versions of the coin include an outer ring of 10 earlier iterations of Mexico’s coat of arms surrounding the central design.
The reverse design of the 2025 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad presents Winged Victory. This image captures the famous statue at the peak of the Mexican Independence Victory Column, with the backdrop featuring the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
During the colonial period, the eagle and serpent motif of the original seal underwent significant transformation as Spanish authorities attempted to reinterpret the pagan Aztec symbol within Christian cosmology.
