The Mexican Mint introduced the Silver Libertad bullion series in 1982 with the release of the 1 oz silver BU coin. In 1983, a 1 oz proof silver coin joined the series, offering collectors a new version of the popular design. Proof Silver Libertad coins began annual production in 1986, and through the 1990s and early 2000s, the series expanded to include both smaller fractional sizes and larger formats beyond the 1 oz option.
