Mexican Libertad bullion coins are struck by the Mexican Mint, the oldest continuously operating mint in the Western Hemisphere. First introduced in the 1980s, the Mexican Libertad Series began with both gold and silver coins, each featuring designs inspired by the historic 1921 Gold Centenario coin. Today, 2025 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The primary design of the Mexican Silver Libertad features the iconic Winged Victory, known in Mexican culture as “Libertad.” This figure symbolizes the nation’s enduring fight for freedom and sovereignty, a legacy rooted in Mexico’s 19th-century struggle for independence and national identity following liberation from Spain.
Each 2025 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coin is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and packaged individually in a protective flip. For 2025, the Mexican Mint reduced production levels across the entire Silver Libertad series and did not issue any Gold Libertad coins. These changes have resulted in the lowest mintages to date for BU Silver Libertads, potentially adding future collectible appeal for this year’s release. Please note that these are spotted specimens. Known as “milk spots,” spotting on silver coins often showcases as a white, milky blemish on the surface that is the result of residue from the minting process or handling.
On the obverse of 2025 Mexican Silver Libertads, the design displays the Mexican coat of arms. The design centers on a golden eagle perched atop a prickly pear cactus with a serpent in its beak and talons. On the 1 oz and larger silver coins, this main emblem is surrounded by 10 historic variations of the national seal, tracing Mexico’s symbolic heritage.
The modern rendering of Winged Victory used on the reverse of 2025 1 oz Silver Libertad Coins was introduced in 1996. It presents a three-quarter view of Victory as she stands on the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City, one of the country’s most recognized monuments.
