The Irish-American artist was commissioned directly by President Theodore Roosevelt to help lead the charge in revitalizing the designs on American coins. President Roosevelt was seeking to reimagine American coins with images reflecting the nation’s growing power and prominence.

Replacing Miley Busiek’s original 1986 design, this 2020 design from Jennie Norris shows the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief with intricate details for its physical features.
