The United States Mint is one of only a few sovereign mints to offer two major gold bullion coins annually. Alongside the long-running American Gold Eagle, the US Mint has offered the American Gold Buffalo since 2006. Crafted in honor of the historic Buffalo Nickel, the Gold Buffalo is America’s only 24-karat gold bullion offering each year. Now, 2025 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins in MintID cards are available online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
On the obverse of 2025 1 oz Gold Buffalo Coins, James Earle Fraser’s portrait of an indigenous figure is found in the design element. This right-profile effigy was one of the first major American coin designs reflecting an indigenous figure, though it does not depict a singular person. Fraser used a combination of facial features from three different tribal leaders of the 20th century to influence his design.
The reverse of 2025 American Gold Buffalos comes with an image of the American bison. Also designed by Fraser, this image shows a massive Plains bison in left-profile relief. It is shown standing on a small mound of earth as it grazes with its head down.
James Earle Fraser’s designs found on the American Gold Buffalo were created in 1913. The design was first used on the Buffalo Nickel from 1913 to 1938. The combined designs honoring America’s indigenous history marked the first time an American coin had two designs honoring the native tribes of the continent. Previous coin designs had incorporated native symbolism in effigies of Liberty or featured an indigenous portrait on one side with the American bald eagle on the other.
These 2025 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins are available individually sealed in MintID CertiCards. The cards include an NFC microchip with AES-128 encryption that securely links to a cloud-based profile for each coin. The MintID app streamlines the authentication process. Turn on NFC scanning, launch the app, and follow the instructions provided. The app is designed to work without requiring any sensitive personal data from you.
