British Silver Britannia Coins debuted in 1997 at The Royal Mint. The continuation of a series that debuted with gold bullion coins, the silver coins were originally offered as sterling silver pieces with .925 silver content. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Britannia became increasingly associated with British patriotism and imperial ambitions. She began to appear more frequently in art, literature, and official iconography. During this period, her attributes were refined: she was often depicted holding a trident (symbolizing naval power), a shield adorned with the Union Jack, and sometimes accompanied by a British lion.

The 1/4 oz Silver Britannia is available individually in a plastic flip or by multiples of 19 coins in protective tubes. These coins feature a brilliant, radial sun effect in the background field on the reverse, with a guilloche pattern in the obverse background.
On the obverse of 2025 British Silver Britannias, you will find the first-generation bust of King Charles III. His Majesty’s left-profile relief comes without a crown on his head. Martin Jennings created this portrait for The Royal Mint in 2022 and it first debuted on British coinage in 2023.
The reverse side of 2025 1/4 oz Silver Britannia Coins comes with the image of Britannia. Designed for the series in 1987 by Philip Nathan, this visual shows Britannia in front-facing relief as her right hand clutches a trident and her left holds an olive branch as it rests on a Union Jack shield. Britannia wears a Corinthian helmet in this design.
