The Royal Mint’s British Britannia Series is a bullion collection honoring one of the most enduring symbols of Britain; the female allegory known as Britannia. First depicted in the 1st century AD, Britannia was originally a Roman symbol associated with the British Isles. Over the centuries, Britons adopted the symbol as a representation of their homeland and culture. Right now, 2025 1/4 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available from JM Bullion.

Post-World War II, Britannia has continued to appear on coinage and in official capacities, but her use in popular culture became more nuanced. She sometimes featured in satirical or critical commentary on Britain’s place in the world, reflecting the nation’s evolving self-perception in the post-imperial era.
The obverse of the 2025 British Gold Britannia features the first-generation effigy of King Charles III. His Majesty is featured here in left-profile relief and is shown without a crown on his head. This bust of King Charles III was created in late 2022 by Martin Jennings and replaced the effigies of his mother, and predecessor, Queen Elizabeth II in 2023.
On the reverse side of 2025 1/4 oz Gold Britannia Coins, you will find an image of Britannia. This version of the allegory’s figure was created in 1987 by Philip Nathan. It shows Britannia in front-facing relief as her right hand wields a trident, her left clutches an olive branch and rests on a Union Jack emblem, and a Corinthian sits atop her head.
