One of the most visible and coveted bullion coins in the world is the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. Introduced in 1979, this program is older than the likes of the Chinese Panda, American Eagle, Australian Kangaroo, and the British Britannia. In fact, only the South African Krugerrand is older than the Gold Maple Leaf. Right now, 2025 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are available at JM Bullion.

The sugar maple’s importance is not merely as a symbolic cultural or political tool, but also as an economic tool. Canada is the world’s largest producer and exporter of maple syrup, with the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick leading production. The annual maple syrup harvest is celebrated throughout the country with festivals, parades, and other community events that showcase the sugar maple’s cultural significance.
The obverse of the 2025 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf comes with a bust of King Charles III. His Majesty made his debut on the Canadian Maple Leaf Series in 2024, marking the first time in the program’s history a monarch other than Queen Elizabeth II was featured on the coins. Charles III’s portrait was created by Steven Rosati and is a left-profile effigy.
On the reverse of 2025 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leafs, you will find the historic sugar maple leaf design. Since 1979, this image of a single sugar maple leaf has graced the reverse of these coins. It was created that year by Walter Ott and has been used on all other versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf Series.
