This series includes a selection of gold and silver coins, primarily in 1 oz silver and larger, including a striking 1 kilo silver coin. Coin Highlights:
Somalia’s coat of arms features on the obverse of 2025 1/10 oz Gold Elephant Coins. This design element features a crowned shield at the center that is supported on either side by a leopard. The shield has a background of horizontal lines with a single star at the center of the field.
An African bush elephant is depicted in the reverse of 2025 Somalia Gold Elephants. The 2025 design features a mature bush elephant marching toward the viewer with long tusks, a sign of its age and maturity. The savanna scene that plays out around the elephant includes a small patch of brush to its right, with a lone tree in the distance. The sun rises into the upper-left portion of the field.
The social structure of African bush elephants is complex and fascinating. They live in matriarchal herds led by the oldest and most experienced female, known as the matriarch. This leader guides the herd to food and water sources, protects the young, and passes down crucial survival knowledge through generations. Males, on the other hand, typically leave the herd upon reaching sexual maturity and often roam alone or in small bachelor groups.
