Proof Silver Libertads became an annual release starting in 1986, and additional weights, both smaller and larger than 1 oz, were gradually introduced throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. This design depicts a golden eagle, perched on a prickly pear cactus, engaged in a dramatic battle with a serpent. For the 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz silver coins, this image is framed by a ring of 10 historic versions of the national emblem. This fractional-ounce coin, like other fractionals, does not have the ring of 10 historic seals.
On the reverse side of the 2025 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad is the design of Winged Victory. This figure is shown atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column, with Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes forming a scenic backdrop in the distance.
The modern Mexican coat of arms, officially adopted in 1968, represents the culmination of more than four centuries of symbolic evolution and political transformation. The current design returns to the essential elements of the original Aztec symbol while incorporating artistic refinements that reflect contemporary Mexican identity.
