Scottsdale Mint introduced the Sea Life Series for the Cayman Islands in 2018, offering collectors a glimpse of the region’s unique ocean wildlife through silver and gold coin releases. This collection highlights notable marine species found in the Caribbean waters surrounding the islands, such as the Marlin, the Stingray, and the Loggerhead Turtle. Today, 2025 1/10 oz Cayman Islands Gold Sea Life Stingray Coins are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The tail of a Caribbean stingray is perhaps its most recognizable feature, extending as a long, whip-like appendage that can be up to twice the length of their body. This tail is equipped with one or more serrated, venomous barbs located about halfway down its length, which appear as sharp, backward-pointing spines.
All 2025 1/10 oz Cayman Islands Gold Sea Life Stingray Coins are available with individual protective capsules. This 1/10 oz gold coin is the smallest in the series and offers proof-like visuals that include subtle frost on the devices and mirror-like fields.
On the obverse of the 2025 Cayman Islands Gold Sea Life Stingray Coin is the coat of arms for the Cayman Islands. This detailed emblem includes three stars to symbolize the three islands in the territory, set above stylized waves that stand for the Caribbean Sea. A turtle rests at the top of the design, a reference to the islands’ former name, Las Tortugas, a name bestowed by early European explorers due to the presence of numerous turtles in the region.
The reverse of the 2025 1/10 oz Gold Sea Life Stingray Coin features an image of a stingray navigating the water with ease. These cartilaginous fish are typically calm and can often be seen lying hidden beneath sandy ocean floors. Stingrays feed on small creatures such as mollusks, worms, and crustaceans. Their flat bodies and lengthy, slender tails, often equipped with venomous barbs, make them well-suited for life on the seafloor. While they are capable of defending themselves, stingrays rarely pose any threat to humans unless they are disturbed.
