The Australian Kookaburra is perhaps the most popular coin program at the Perth Mint. Introduced as the Silver Kookaburra in 1990, this program has annually featured a new depiction of the kookaburra species on the reverse and has since expanded to gold and, more recently, platinum options. Right now, 2025 1/10 oz Australian Gold Kookaburra Coins are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each of the 2025 1/10 oz Australian Gold Kookaburra Coins comes with a protective plastic capsule. The 2025 issue is the official 35th anniversary of the series, with the first date coming in 1990. As with other years, the 2025 design showcases a new image of the kookaburra.
Kookaburras are native to eastern Australia, with the laughing kookaburra being the largest member of the kingfisher family. They evolved as forest dwellers, developing their distinctive hunting style of perching on branches and swooping down to catch prey. Following European colonization in the late 18th century, kookaburras adapted well to human presence, actually expanding their range as land clearing created ideal hunting conditions with open spaces adjacent to trees.
In the obverse design of 2025 Australian Gold Kookaburra Coins, the mint features a portrait of King Charles III. His Majesty is shown here in left-profile relief in a design that was created in 2024 by Dan Thorne. This is one of several first-generation effigies of Charles III and he is depicted without a crown.
For the reverse side of 2025 1/10 oz Gold Kookaburra Coins, you will find a 35th-anniversary design of the kookaburra. In this anniversary design, you will find a kookaburra perched on a small branch with its wings at its side as it looks back over its shoulder toward the viewer. The sun is shown rising in the background field.
