The South African Krugerrand Series is the most established bullion coin in the world. Introduced in 1967, the Gold Krugerrand was unchallenged by any other bullion coin for more than a decade. By the 1980s, the Gold Krugerrand was so popular that it accounted for 90% of the global gold bullion market. Today, the coin’s control of the market has diminished, but its popular remains as high as ever.

2024 Gold Krugerrands

The Gold Krugerrand is the leader of the series and the oldest coin available to investors today. When the series started in 1967, only 1 oz gold was available. In 1980, the intense demand for the coins resulted in the introduction of 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins, all four of which are still available today. In 2017, the South African Mint introduced the Silver Krugerrand as part of the 50th-anniversary celebration of the series.
