In 2021, the United States Mint revived its last two silver dollar designs to mark an important centennial. The Morgan Silver Dollar and Peace Silver Dollar covered more than 50 years of circulation silver dollar use in the United States, with the Morgan Dollar issued from 1878-1904 and in 1921, while the Peace Dollar was issued from 1921-1928 and again in 1934-1935. Modern bullion versions of the coins are popular with investors and collectors. Today, 2024-S Reverse Proof Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar 2-Coin Sets are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
In 1921, the United States Mint resumed silver dollar coining after a 17-year hiatus. To jumpstart production, the mint used George T. Morgan’s original 1878 visuals and released the Morgan Silver Dollar one final time. By year’s end, Anthony de Francisci has won an artistic competition to have his new design featured on the Peace Silver Dollar. This centennial of the final Morgan and first Peace Dollars was celebrated by the US Mint in 2021 with the revival of both designs as modern silver bullion coins.
All 2024-S Reverse Proof Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar 2-Coin Sets come with individual capsules for each coin. The coins are packaged together in a two-coin box with a Morgan Dollar-Peace Dollar-themed shipper. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with each set and both coins are reverse proofs. Reverse-proof coins have mirrored designs and frosted fields.
On the Morgan Silver Dollar, you’ll find George T. Morgan’s depiction of Lady Liberty on the obverse. She is in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap, coronet crown, and laurel wreath on her head. The reverse of the Morgan Dollar comes with an image of the heraldic eagle. The front-facing bald eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
The Peace Silver Dollar comes with a unique depiction of Liberty from Anthony de Francisci. His effigy shows Liberty in left-profile relief with a crown of light on her head and flowing hear. On the reverse of Peace Dollar Coins is a depiction of the American bald eagle. The eagle is shown here at rest with its wings by its side as it rests on an olive branch and gazes toward the sun on the horizon.
