    2024 Gold Libertads

Introduced in 1981, the Mexican Gold Libertad debuted as a gold bullion coin from the Mexican Mint 60 years after the famous 1921 Gold Centenario was struck in honor of the nation’s 100th anniversary of independence. Though the design of the Gold Libertad has changed with time, its iconic imagery still reflects the nation’s past and remains popular with investors and numismatists alike.

    2024 Options

The Mexican Gold Libertad is available each year in BU, Proof, and Reverse Proof options. The series includes five weights: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz gold, with these five weights offered in BU and Proof. Additionally, the Mexican Mint offers a Reverse Proof option (as of 2018) in 1 oz and 1/2 oz gold. While Proof coins feature frosted design elements over mirrored fields, Reverse Proof coins offer the opposite visuals and boast mirrored designs overlaying frosted backgrounds.

    History of the Symbols

Gold Libertad bullion coins feature the image of the Mexican coat of arms on the obverse, with the goddess of Victory on the reverse. The Mexican design is based on the ancient depictions of the Roman goddess Victoria.

Victoria was the Roman goddess of victory, equivalent to the Greek goddess Nike. She played a significant role in Roman religion and culture, embodying triumph in both military conquests and personal endeavors.

The Mexican coat of arms has a rich history that reflects the country’s cultural heritage and national identity. Its central image, an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus devouring a snake, has its roots in Aztec legend and has evolved over centuries.
