The Kennedy half dollar was created to honor the memory of President John F. Kennedy following his assassination in 1963. The idea for a coin featuring Kennedy's likeness was proposed shortly after his death as a way to commemorate his legacy.
Gilroy Roberts and Frank Gasparro collaborated on the development of the JFK Half Dollar’s designs. Roberts served as Chief Engraver at the mint from 1948 to 1964, while Gasparro was appointed as an Assistant Engraver at the United States Mint in 1942. This marked the beginning of his long and distinguished career with the US Mint.
In the obverse design of 2024 JFK Half Dollars, you’ll find a portrait of President John F. Kennedy. Roberts created this design earlier in Kennedy’s tenure as President of the United States for the Presidential Medal Series.
The reverse field of 2024 JFK Half Dollar Coins comes with an image of the presidential seal. A modified version of the emblem, it includes a bald eagle in front-facing relief with the US national shield, arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace. Gasparro created this visual for the coin.
These 2024 JKF Half Dollar Sets come with two 2024 JFK Half Dollars. Each coin has its own capsule and the set comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The coins included in this set include one from the Philadelphia Mint with a P mint mark and one from the Denver Mint with a D mint mark. Both coins have 24-karat gold plating throughout.
