The United States Mint introduced the JFK Half Dollar in 1964. The most recent design for the US Half Dollar, the JFK design was created in the aftermath of President Kennedy’s assassination as a lasting tribute to the man whose administration was seen as a new era for the nation. Each 2024 JFK Half Dollar Black Ruthenium Set available here comes with two 2024 JFK Half Dollars. The coins are individually packaged in protective capsules and come with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Merrick Mint. These coins are legal tender half dollars with a cupro-nickel alloy. One coin bears a P mint mark from the Philadelphia Mint, while the other features a D mint mark from the Denver Mint.
President John F. Kennedy was the youngest person ever elected to the presidency, assuming office at the age of 43. His youthfulness and charisma appealed to many Americans, particularly younger voters. Following his assassination in office, US Mint Chief Engraver Gilroy Roberts and Assistant Engraver Frank Gasparro developed the designs for the JFK Half Dollar.
In the obverse design of the 2024 JKF Half Dollar Coins, you’ll find a left-profile bust of President John F. Kennedy. Roberts was the designer of this portrait and had originally created it for the Kennedy Presidential Medal in 1962.
For the reverse side of 2024 JFK Black Ruthenium Half Dollars, the mint features Gasparro’s depiction of a modified presidential seal. The image shows an American bald eagle in front-facing relief with a US national shield, the arrows of war in one talon, and the olive branch of peace in the other.
