It was established by a royal decree from the Spanish Crown on May 11, 1535, making it the first mint in the Americas. The primary purpose of its founding was to convert the abundant silver being mined in New Spain into coinage, which would facilitate trade and generate revenue for the Spanish Empire.
All 2024 5 oz Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available with individual plastic capsules. The coins come with a reverse-proof visual. This flips the traditional approach to proof coinage by delivering mirrored design elements on a frosted background for unique visual contrast.
On the obverse of the 2024 Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad is a depiction of the national coat of arms. In the center of the field, the modern Mexican seal is featured with its golden eagle battling a serpent on the branch of a prickly pear cactus. The ring around this seal includes 10 historic versions of the national emblem.
The reverse side of 2024 5 oz Reverse Proof Silver Libertad Coin comes with an image of Winged Victory. Based on the goddess Nike, or Victoria, the statue shows a winged female figure with a laurel wreath held aloft in her right hand as her left hand clutches a set of broken chains.
