Koalas are highly specialized marsupials that have evolved to lead a remarkably sedentary lifestyle, spending most of their time – up to 20 hours per day – either sleeping or resting in eucalyptus trees. This seemingly lazy behavior is actually an adaptation to their low-energy diet and helps them conserve energy. When active, they move slowly and deliberately through the canopy, using their powerful limbs and sharp claws to grip branches. They are primarily solitary animals, with adults maintaining and defending their own home ranges.

Each black display case features a clear, acrylic lid and come with a colorful koala-themed shipper. There is a Certificate of Authenticity available with each coin that bears an individual serial number. The coin features pink gold around the rim and on the image of the koala.

On the obverse of 2024 Proof Australian Silver Koalas, you will find the first-generation portrait of King Charles III for Australian coins. Created by Dan Thorne, this effigy shows His Majesty in left-profile relief without a crown on his head.

The reverse side of the 2024 5 oz Proof Silver Koala Coin features a depiction of a koala clinging to a tree trunk with eucalyptus leaves surrounding it. The koala’s diet consists almost exclusively of eucalyptus leaves, which are highly fibrous, low in nutrients, and toxic to most other animals. They are able to digest these tough leaves thanks to specialized adaptations in their digestive system, including a long cecum that contains bacteria capable of breaking down the toxic compounds found in eucalyptus.
