The Mexican Libertad bullion coin series features designs honoring the heritage of Mexico, both the modern state and the historic Aztec Empire. The BU Silver Libertad has been the most consistently issued coin in the broader Libertad Series. The 1 oz silver coin was introduced in 1982 and has been struck every year since that time. The Mexican Mint expanded the series three times since 1982, with fractional-ounce coins debuting in 1991, 2 oz and 5 oz coins in 1996, and a 1 Kilo coin in 2008.
All 2024 5 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins are available with protective plastic bags for delivery. These 5 oz Libertads are Brilliant Uncirculated specimens. Historically, the 5 oz coin has seen its annual mintage level swing between the lowest minted in the series and one of the higher minted options. The 2023 release last year marked a new record high for the 5 oz coin with 25,000 units struck.
On the obverse of 2024 Mexican Silver Libertads is the Mexican coat of arms. In fact, this side of the coin features 11 different versions of the national seal. At the center of the coin is the modern emblem with its powerful golden eagle on a prickly pear cactus with a snake in its talons. Around this design are 10 historic versions of the national coat of arms.
The reverse side of the 2024 5 oz Silver Libertad Coin comes with an image of Winged Victory. This statue is based on the historic goddess of victory known as Nike, or Victoria. Her figure became prominent during the Mexican Revolution and was adopted as a national emblem following Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1821.
