The Scottsdale Mint’s coveted Biblical Series of silver coins is drawing to an end in 2024. Introduced in 2015, this collection has taken believers and collectors alike on a journey through the Bible via the 19th-century works of Gustave Dore. Each 2 oz silver coin released in this series depicted a different story from the Bible with faithful reproductions of Dore’s classic works. Coin Highlights:
The story of Jonah begins when God commands him to go to the great city of Nineveh and prophesy against its wickedness. Instead of obeying, Jonah attempts to flee from God’s presence by boarding a ship bound for Tarshish. During the journey, God sends a powerful storm that threatens to break the ship apart. The sailors, discovering that Jonah is the cause of their peril, reluctantly throw him overboard at his own suggestion, after which the sea immediately becomes calm.
All 2024 2 oz Jonah and the Large Fish Biblical Silver Coins arrive with a Bible-themed presentation box. Each coin is a beautiful proof with antique visuals that create the sense of an ancient coin in its appearance. The coins come with a Certificate of Authenticity from Scottsdale Mint. The 2024 release cycle is the final year for this coveted series.
On the obverse of 2024 Jonah and the Large Fish Biblical Silver Coins is a bust of His Majesty King Charles III. Designed by Jody Clark, this left-profile relief depicts Charles III without a crown on his head.
The reverse of 2024 2 oz Jonah and the Large Fish Biblical Coins comes with an image of Jonah in a moment of surrender as the large fish appears. Rather than letting Jonah drown, God appoints a great fish (traditionally described as a whale, though the original text simply says “great fish”) to swallow him. Jonah remains in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights, during which he prays to God in repentance. His prayer, recorded in the second chapter of the book, is a powerful psalm of thanksgiving for God’s mercy, even in the midst of what seemed like certain death.
