The kookaburra is one of Australia’s most recognizable birds, however, it holds extreme cultural significance for the country’s Aboriginal people. The kookaburra was introduced to the southwest corner of Western Australia in the 1890s. That area’s inhabitants, the Nyoongar people, refer to this bird as the “kaa kaa” which represents the well-known noise that the bird makes.
