The 1839 Una and the Lion gold coin is renowned for its exquisite design and historical significance. The design of the Una and the Lion gold coin was inspired by Edmund Spenser’s epic poem “The Faerie Queene.” Una, a character representing truth and beauty, is depicted standing beside a majestic lion, symbolizing England’s strength and sovereignty.

Obverse design elements on these 2024 Una and the Lion Silver Bars include the images of Una and the Lion. This distinctive design features the two close together in an embrace. Una is captured in left-profile relief lowering her head to rest it against the head of the mighty lion, with the beast captured in right-profile relief with a thick, massive mane.

Reverse visuals on the 1 oz Una and the Lion Silver Bar include an iconic Latin phrase from the original 1839 gold coin. The words DIRIGIT DEUS GRESSUS MEOS were featured in Wyon’s original design for the gold coin and translate as MAY GOD DIRECT MY STEPS.
