The tiger species found in the Korean Peninsula was the Continental or Amur tiger (Panthera tigris altaica), also known as the Siberian tiger. In the final design of the series, the tiger is featured with Hallasan National Park as the backdrop behind the image of the animal on the reverse of the coin.
Hallasan refers, generally, to a national park located on Jeju island. However, it is also the name of a specific shield volcano located on the island that the national park surrounds. Hallasan marks the highest geographic point in the country and reaches a summit of 6,388 feet. One of the famous views from the park is found on the medal in the form of the lake that sits within the shield volcano.
The obverse of the 2024 1 oz Tiger Silver Medal features a depiction of a mighty Korean tiger. In this final design, the tiger is shown in the foreground as it leaps from the foliage, likely attacking prey it has been stocking through the forests. There is a paw print engraved on this side, along with the name of the shield volcano that helps form the background field.
On the reverse of 2024 South Korean Tiger Silver Medals, you will find the common design element for the series. The image of the Korean peninsula is shown here but notably does not feature political boundaries. Instead, the shape of the peninsula is formed with characters from the Korean alphabet.
These 2024 1 oz South Korean Tiger Silver Medals are available for purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The medals are individually housed in plastic flips, with multiples available in tubes of 25. Boxes are available with 10 tubes inside, for a total of 250 rounds.
