The second of two numismatic versions of the Gold Libertad available to collectors, the Reverse Proof Libertad is available in limited numbers and comes with only two weight choices each year, compared to five weights for the traditional proof. The Mexican Mint offers both proof and reverse proof versions of its Gold Libertad coin. Traditional proofs come with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz weights each year and have been available since 2004. The reverse proofs come in only 1 oz and 1/2 oz gold, with these two coins struck annually as of 2018.
All 2024 1 oz Reverse Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins are available with protective plastic capsules. These reverse proof offer mirrored design elements overlaying frosted background fields. This contrasts with the visual impact of a traditional proof, which has frosted design elements on a mirrored background field.
On the obverse of 2024 Reverse Proof Mexican Gold Libertads, you will find the modern coat of arms of Mexico, as well as 10 historic versions of the seal. The modern emblem features a mighty golden eagle in left-profile relief on a prickly pear cactus as it battles a serpent. The 10 historic versions offer prior iterations of this emblem dating as far back as the 1524 Codex Mendoza design from the Aztec Empire.
The reverse field of the 2024 1 oz Reverse Proof Gold Libertad Coin features the image of Winged Victory. Based on the Greek goddess Nike, the goddess of victory, Winged Victory is an angelic figure with a laurel wreath in her right hand and broken chains in her left. She stands atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column with the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background.
