Samuel Bellamy was born in England in 1689 and later moved to the American colonies. He began his career as a sailor and eventually turned to piracy around 1716. Bellamy is remembered for his relatively short but highly successful pirate career. He captained the pirate ship Whydah Gally, which he captured and turned into his flagship.
