Suchomimus, whose name means “crocodile mimic,” was a large theropod dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 125 to 112 million years ago. This fascinating creature inhabited what is now Niger in Africa, roaming the lush, tropical environments of the time. With its elongated snout and sharp, conical teeth, Suchomimus bore a striking resemblance to modern crocodiles, hence its name.
The obverse of the 2024 Congo Silver Prehistoric Life Suchomimus Coin comes with a depiction of the coat of arms of Congo. The seal features a leopard’s head in front-facing relief set above a slab of rock. The head of the leopard is flanked on one side by a spear and on the other by an elephant tusk.
