The Tuscarora are an indigenous people who originally lived along the Neuse and Tar Rivers in what is now North Carolina. They are one of the Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, also known as the Haudenosaunee. In the early 18th century, the Tuscarora came into conflict with European colonial settlers in the region, leading to the Tuscarora War from 1711 to 1715. After their defeat, the Tuscarora migrated northward and were accepted into the Iroquois Confederacy as the Sixth Nation in 1722. The remaining Tuscarora members settled around present-day Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Here, the head of the American bald eagle is shown in left-profile relief at the center of an eight-pointed star. Around the outside of the star, you’ll notice arrowheads between each of the points.
