The 32nd release in the Native America the Beautiful Series celebrates the Mosopelea people, an indigenous tribe from the Siouan language family that originally resided in the Ohio River Valley near the Cumberland Gap. In honor of the Warrior’s Path, as the gap was known to indigenous tribes, the latest NATB coin features Mosopelea people walking the path. Coin Highlights:
By the mid-18th century, the Mosopelea population had significantly declined due to disease, warfare, and displacement. The remaining members of the tribe often merged with other indigenous groups, particularly the Tunica and Biloxi tribes in Louisiana. Today, the descendants of the Mosopelea are primarily associated with the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, who continue to preserve aspects of their cultural heritage.
All 2024 1 oz Colorized Native America the Beautiful Kentucky Silver Coins come with a protective capsule. The coin and capsule are housed in a presentation box from the mint that includes a Certificate of Authenticity. These coins are colorized specimens with unique finishes on the reverse that bring the tribal life of the Mosopelea to life.
On the obverse of 2024 Colorized NATB Kentucky Silver Coins is a depiction of the Mosopelea people. In this design, several warriors from the tribe are shown walking through the Cumberland Gap. To the Mosopelea, this natural break in the Appalachian Mountains was known as the Warrior’s Path.
The reverse side of 2024 1 oz Colorized Kentucky Silver Coins comes with a common design element used throughout this series. Here you will find an American bald eagle at the center of an eight-pointed star. There are arrowheads between each of the eight points around the outside of the star.
