The obverse design of the American Silver Eagle is one of America’s most iconic coin designs. Known as Walking Liberty, this design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman. Weinman (1870–1952) was a German-born American sculptor renowned for his contributions to numismatic art. He created several iconic designs for coins in the United States, including the iconic US Walking Liberty Half Dollar.

Weinman’s design is shown in a new light on these colorized specimens as Lady Liberty is brought to life with vivid colorization. The image of Liberty has bright hues on her dress with the red, white, and blue of the American flag draped around her shoulders. The sun offers a warm orange glow on the horizon as it crests a green mountain peak.

Liberty’s full-length figure is shown here in left-profile relief with her right hand outstretched and her left carrying the branches of oak and laurel. Designed by Emily Damstra, this naturalistic design shows a bald eagle descending into view in left-profile relief with its wings flexed and its talons clutching an oak branch.
