Koalas are fascinating creatures with a rich history and significance in Australia. These beloved marsupials are more than just a symbol of Australia’s rich and diverse wildlife; they are also a part of the Perth Mint’s annual release of wildlife-themed silver bullion coins. Right now, 2024 1 oz Australian Silver Koala Coins are available at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2024 1 oz Australian Silver Koala Coin offered here is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is individually encapsulated. Multiples are offered in capsules as well, with 20 coins sealed together in a plastic roll and 100 coins packaged by rolls of 5 in a box.
Koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) are marsupials native to Australia. Their closest living relatives are wombats. They belong to the family Phascolarctidae and are not closely related to bears despite their bear-like appearance. The Silver Koala has been in production since 2007 at Perth Mint and the 2024 release marks not only a new reverse design, but the first-ever obverse change as well.
In the obverse design of the 2024 Australian Silver Koala, King Charles III is featured for the first time. This is the first issue of this silver coin series not to feature Queen Elizabeth II. This left-profile bust of Charles III was created by Dan Thorne for Perth Mint coins.
For the reverse side of 2024 1 oz Silver Koala Coins, Perth Mint features a distinct new design from Ing Ing Jong. This year’s visual shows a koala clinging to the trunk of a gum tree. The koala’s fur is captured in intricate detail within the engraving and the P125 mint mark features on this side as part of Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary celebration.
