Dragons were a central piece of traditional Chinese medicine. "Dragon bones" were an important ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years. These were actually fossilized bones, often from prehistoric mammals. They were ground into a powder and used to treat various conditions. Modern research has shown that these fossils contain high levels of calcium and other minerals, which may explain some of their perceived medicinal effects.

Charles III is shown here in a simple suit without a crown on his head.

The reverse side of the 2024 1 oz Rectangular Gold Dragon Coin comes with a depiction of the mythical Chinese dragon. This year’s design shows the dragon with its eyes keenly fixed on a flaming pearl. The background field features stylized water and clouds. The dragon is said to control both of these elements, which are omens of good luck.
