When the Proof Gold Libertad Series reached annual-release status in 2004, the Mexican Mint not only revived its 1 oz and 1/2 oz gold designs, it also introduced three more fractional-ounce coins. The largest of those new coins in 2004 was the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Libertad. Today, 2024 1/4 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins are available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The first issue of the Proof Mexican Gold Libertad in a 1/4 oz gold weight came in 2004. This was the year that saw the Proof Gold Libertad Coins begin annual releases, with 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz gold coins debuting that year. Since that time, there has not been a missed issue of the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Libertad.
All 2024 1/4 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins available here come with frosted design elements and mirrored background fields. Each coin is individually packaged in its own plastic flip. The highest recorded mintage for the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Libertad came in 2005 when 3,920 coins were sold, while the lowest mintage is 250 coins. This record low was set in 2014 and matched in 2020.
Obverse design elements on 2024 Proof Mexican Gold Libertads include the modern Mexican coat of arms. The seal features a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus. The eagle uses its talons and beak to battle a serpent. This seal is based on an Aztec emblem from the 1524 Codex Mendoza.
Reverse visuals on 2024 1/4 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coins feature the image of Winged Victory. This design comes with the image of the Winged Victory statue from the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column. A symbol of the Mexican Revolution, Winged Victory is shown here in slight left-profile relief with a laurel wreath in one hand and a set of broken chains in the other.
