The Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coin is a beautiful, collectible version of the Mexican Gold Libertad Coin. The Proof Gold Libertad was issued just two times, in separate weights, between 1983 and 2004. When the series began annual production in 2004, the 1/20 oz coin was one of five options available to collectors. Today, 2024 1/20 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins are available from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Proof Gold Libertad Coins were first issued in 1983, but this release include only 88 coins in a 1 oz gold weight. The next release of a Proof Gold Libertad came in 1989, with only a 1/2 oz gold coin offered this time and a slightly higher mintage of 704 coins. There was not another strike of Proof Gold Libertads until 2004, at which point the Mexican Mint added 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins to the series.
All 2024 1/20 oz Proof Mexican Gold Libertad Coins offered here come in protective plastic capsules. Each coin has frosted designs with mirrored fields. The 1/20 oz Proof Gold Libertad experienced its highest mintage in 2016 with 2,100 coins sold, while its lowest mintage came in its debut issue in 2004 with just 200 coins sold.
On the obverse of 2024 Proof Mexican Gold Libertads is the Mexican coat of arms. The national seal consists of a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus. The eagle is shown with flexed wings as it battles a serpent. According to legend, this same symbol appeared to the Aztecs as a sign from their gods to construct their capital city in the exact spot where an eagle was seen devouring a snake.
The reverse of the 2024 1/20 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coin comes with the image of Winged Victory. A symbol of Mexican independence, her winged figure is shown in a slight left-profile relief with a laurel wreath in her raised right hand and broken chains in the left hand resting at her side.
